[Caruru de Ibeji and Pedagogingas is the annual festival of Casa do Boneco in Itacaré, held since 2002 to celebrate and disseminate ancestral knowledge of African matrix. The project combines education and culture, promoting encounters among masters, artists, educators, students, social movements, and terreiros (Afro-Brazilian religious houses) to strengthen Black identity, collective self-esteem, and the fight against racism.
From October 7 to 11, 2026, at Fazenda Modelo Quilombo D’Oiti in Itacaré, Bahia, the Pedagogingas take place as immersive experiences featuring workshops, conversation circles (djumbais), and Afro-Pindoramic artistic interventions. The festival culminates in the traditional Caruru de Ibeji, an offering to the child orixás in gratitude for life, resistance, and continuity through children.
This year’s theme is “Creative Sustainability.” With over 30 years of practice, Casa do Boneco is a pioneer and a national and international reference in Afro-referenced tourism, combining culture, community work, and income generation. The result of work initiated in 1988, the festival is an autonomous space for Black resistance, political education, and economic autonomy for Afro-descendant communities.]
