Hi everyone,
As briefly mentioned in Regen Ledger v5.0 Upgrade Proposal, the latest version of Regen Ledger does not support the experimental build option and therefore Hambach Testnet has continued running Regen Ledger v4.0 with the experimental build. After further consideration, the RND team has decided to shut down its validator node on February 15th, which will effectively shut down Hambach Testnet. The reasons for shutting down Hambach Testnet are as follows:
-
Hambach is a ghost town. We have a total of 8 transactions on Hambach Testnet since launching the testnet and all of those transactions are from internal team members.
-
Hambach was originally intended to support experimental features not yet available on Regen Mainnet and Regen Redwood. We have now shipped all those features (including updates to those features and an updated version of the group module). CosmWasm is the only remaining experimental feature (see next reason).
-
We removed the experimental build option following Regen Ledger v4.0 because CosmWasm is not compatible with Cosmos SDK v0.46 and it is not technically possible to support both without maintaining a fork of CosmWasm. We chose Cosmos SDK v0.46 over CosmWasm and now have to wait for a new CosmWasm version that is compatible with the latest version of Cosmos SDK. The CosmWasm team has chosen not to provide a version compatible with Cosmos SDK v0.46 and are halting all work that would support Cosmos SDK v0.47 until they receive more funding.
-
With the added support for interchain accounts in Regen Ledger v5.0, anyone wanting to interact with the latest Regen Ledger features using CosmWasm can do so from another chain via IBC.
-
Although not a significant amount, Hambach Testnet is consuming resources that we feel could be better spent.
-
We can always relaunch Hambach Testnet when it makes more sense to do so.
